The beginning of my author career.
Several years ago, I would come home after a day of coding at my job as an Android app developer. After dinner, I would normally blob in front of the TV. I wasn’t even really enjoying it much, it was just a habit. I really wanted another hobby. I remembered that I loved writing stories in school, so I thought I’d have a crack at writing again after all those years.
The first story I wrote was called Junk Bucket about a kid who builds a billy cart out of junk lying around in the garage. I sent the story into the Shoalhaven short story competition and was pretty shocked that I was shortlisted. I didn’t even know that was a thing. I remember telling my sister that they did mention my story in the competition summary notes and forwarded her the email. She said “You mean you were shortlisted?!”
I decided to invest into my writing by learning, writing often and joining writing groups and organisations. I hope that decision will benefit you as a parent, teacher and lover or children’s fiction. I hope my stories will make your kids smile 🙂
I’m converting that story to a chapter book, so hopefully one day, it’ll be a fun story for the kids in your life.
Oh, by the way, I’ve just ordered the first book for a giveaway on Friday. Can’t wait to share with you what book it is.
Over to you now. Have you ever gotten sick of watching TV and decided to pick up another hobby instead? Let me know in the comments!
