A Trip to the Beach – Review
A trip to the Beach by Gwyn Perkins and published by Affirm Press is a sweet story of Iggy, a gorgeous little cat on a beach adventure.
I was first drawn to this book probably because the beach is one of my favourite places, having grown up with surfing as one of my favourite things to do. When it caught my eye in the bookshop, my young son had been a little wary of the sand and water and I wanted him to see more of the fun things at the beach so he can eventually enjoy it more too when he’s ready.
This is a perfect bedtime story because it has a sweet and peaceful mood. Kids will relate to Iggy the cat who has all sorts of new experiences at the beach like eating fish and chips, building a sandcastle, looking under the water with “looking-in-the-water-glasses”, paddling a boat and of course, catching his first wave!
Iggy seemed a little unsure whether he could catch his first wave, but once he gets the hang of it, he doesn’t want to stop.
A Trip to the Beach is a really lovely book with super cute illustrations and oozes the warm glow of experiencing something new together with someone you love.
In addition to A Trip to the Beach, there are more books in this Iggy and Grandad series. A Walk in the Bush and A day at the Show.
